Just The Basics Ma'am

As much as I would love to have a stack of 'knock your socks off' bright and bold fabrics to share...alas...it is not that!

It is however, the basics.  Basics are a must.  Yardage is a must.  Backings will be made from these and most likely a front or two!

The low down.

Good old basic every day must have colors!  I wonder how much grey thread I go through?! I picked this four pack up from Craftsy.  But you know, there is a story behind it.

I bought a good bit of yardage from Craftsy a couple weeks ago.  Happy days!  When the package arrived, wouldn't you know it...it was open.  Freak out time!  All the fabric was accounted for.  Unfortunately, the thread bundle had slipped out and was never to be seen again.  I contacted Craftsy, and as always they were very quick to respond and to send out a replacement.

Denyse Schmidt 'Hadley' was a shot in the dark!  I needed a backing for this quilt:

and I though it would work.  It doesn't look like it from these pictures, but they actually match pretty well.  For some reason, which is not normal for me, I wanted to use a print on the back. We'll see.

To go with my Michael Miller Glitz Fabric bundle,

I picked up a yard or soft white and black.  Both are Cotton Couture.  Raise your hand if you haven't a clue what you will make for the Quiltcon Challenge!  This is just in case.

For years this fabric has haunted my dreams!  I've seen it everywhere...everywhere but with me!  Even after Ikea said 'no more', they really didn't mean that!!

Every once in a while I check out #thegreatfabricdestash on Instagram.  I haven't had much luck finding 'me' stuff on there for a while...until this!  Someone in Texas bought up 4 or 5 bolts and happily shared her find.  I got four yards, which should be perfect for something! To me it was the deal of the century for only $6 a yard!!

The last and most 'Ho-Hum', no sun glasses needed stack...Kona Cotton.  I can tell you, I have lots of white now!!  (another 8 yards worth)  Let's give a mention to the beautiful Sandy Sand, Steel Grey, Basic Black, Deep Red, Terrific Teal, and Jazzy Jade Green!!

Standing 'O', I don't think so!  A soft, and quick golf clap...and move on!

    1. It has been a life saver buying yards of fabric for backing! I never use to do it, but boy does it make sense!

  3. Love ALL these Jayne! And I'm so there in that Ikea text fabric except now I'm alone since you got some...ha I forgot to put in my stash post that all that fabric I bought except for the brushed cotton was $6/yard. The brushes cotton was $7. Love that.

    1. There is nothing like a good deal on fabric! Especially fabric you will use! I'm head over heels with the Ikea fabric. Finally I got something that I've wished for for so long!

  4. I've got both hands high up in the air -- no clue what to do for the Michael Miller challenge. And to make matters worse, it's difficult to find Michael Miller fabrics around here.

  6. My hand is in the air over the Ikea print. I don't usually covet fabrics to the extent I want that one- however my stash is obscenely large compared to the amount of finishes I can claim to my name - LOL, I won't even admit the WIP's I've got going ;).
MIchael Miller Glitz - I'm in, I ordered a half yard of all of them and a yard of two of them. I had NO CLUE what I was doing - but eventually drafted an idea/pattern and got to work. FIRST challenge ever, first quilt I'll ever enter in anything, first time making up a pattern, first time working with metallics, first time working only with other solid colors - HELLO?? Can you say I'm out of my comfort zone???? It is such a great stretch for me - I've learned so much. I've got some leftovers I know I won't be using - want some scraps??

    1. Great to know about changing the stitch length. I've never used metallics either, a challenge in itself! This really is a first for you!! Congrats on all your firsts! I can't wait to see what you did! Stepping out of your comfort zone isn't easy to do. You never know, you may do it more now!

  7. Oh, and by the way - an FYI re: the Glitz fabric - change your stitch length in any dense heavy metallic areas or the seam comes out quite ripple-y - Ask me how I know this?? LOL as I stated above, quite the learning experience. Not that a see a metallic anywhere in my future......

  8. Alright, you are NOT allowed to get my hopes up like that. When I saw that black & white text print fabric I was about to jump in the car and start driving to Ikea. Glad you found it! What bothers me, is that they say they don't have it anymore, but I can't tell you how many times I've seen them use it, hanging from the ceiling somewhere just taunting me.

    1. I'm sorry!! But I'm not sorry I finally got my hands on the Ikea fabric!! There isn't an Ikea any where close to us. Stumbling upon it on instagram was pure luck!

  9. Hey, it's always good to have the basics on hand! I think that "Hadley' is going to make a great quilt backing. Can't wait to see that one finished up!

    1. I'm excited that I got the backing for that quilt. I'm racking my brain on how to quilt it now! Why can't I master FMQ!! I'll figure something out eventually!

    2. Deciding on a quilting design is one of the hardest parts, I think. I'm sure you'll come up with something beautiful. I'm still working on improving my FMQ skills too.... we'll both get to mastery eventually! :)

    3. I've made one more step…the back is pieced and it's pinned! Waiting for the inspiration to quilt next! I seem to always have a tough time coming up with a quilting design! As for FMQ, one of these days we will get it!
